Victoria Carr: Textbook Studios

Victoria is a graphic designer based in Salford, working for Textbook studio's, which herself and her business partner Chris began.

Their company creates graphic designs for all arts and culture. But their business doesn’t just do graphics, their skill set and focus is wider for arts shown in the side diagram. With a wide variety of clients, some have now become long term, as they can provide a lot of marketing skills for growing and established companies, therefore many will have all of their needs met at Textbook studios.

One of their client is called ‘Cloud Water Brew Co', this company is a prime example of a repeat business client.

Completing book publications (typography) and exhibitions, websites, instagrams and online content and branding for them. Textbook studios collabarate with other companies such as illustrators and signage companies when they have projects that need further assistance, so having a good working relationship with other creative businesses works well for them to prevent them from loosing clientele if they cannot provide a specific service themselves.

Victoria discussed how Textbook studios has worked on photography catalogue's and websites with The University of Huddersfield for the last few years. It not only gains their company more work but having students works professionally printed and put into the outside world hopefully helps to gain graduates more post-course opportunities.

With their studio holding 50 separate studios which fits five people maximum, it allows people to share equipment, ideas and skill sets. Currently in the studio there are eleven individuals who share the space, all work in a different discipline.

They only got the ‘amazing’ studio due to connections with fellow creative businesses. So now the studio often gets hired as a collective due to having everyone with different skill sets being able to meet more needs from clients.

To raise money in the past they have made a machine which would release one tube of artwork from famous, local artists and them selfs, which cost £25 a tube. This was a really successful way to fund raise as it raised enough money for their new roof on the studio.
